Embracing the simple things

Paying attention to the little moments we often consider unimportant.

A ray of sunshine. Laughing my heads off with friends. A deep conversation with my sister. The triumphant feeling after I created something. Time for taking a hot shower. The moments I shared with people I love. The happiness I feel when I bought some fresh vegetables.

The simple moments are things we experience on a (more or less) daily basis. When people are in a rush or are absorbed by their thoughts, they are not able to enjoy those moments properly. Returning to our senses might help us to shift our focus to be fully present.

Slow living, the art of simple living, a zen lifestyle. It pretty much comes down to the same point. It is the art of happiness and mastering a calm mindset whatever difficulties you experience.

At the moment, I am reading a book about a Zen lifestyle because it fascinates me. The book “Zen, The Art of Simple Living” by Shunmyo Masuno covers 100 lessons we can integrate into our daily routines. Each lesson conveys the essence of Zen applied to modern life. My favourite lesson so far is “ savour the morning air”. The promise of a new day full of opportunities.

I took this picture in the morning when the sun was shining through my curtains. It was such a relaxing moment.

Now I am curious, what are the small moments you enjoy?
