“I wish you a kinder sea”

~ Emily Dickinson

That one day at the seaside I kept thinking about Emily Dickinson’s quote. It made sense. The sea was so calm. My thoughts were going over each possible meaning of that metaphorical quote. Beautiful figurative language. I came to realize I too wish everyone a kinder sea. Because we often forget what so many people are going through. We assume the people passing us by on the street have no worries, no pain, and are not dealing with setbacks. We feel ashamed and judged by others when something doesn’t go according to plan and we yearn to be like everyone else, the perfect human being who has it all together. The perfect human being doesn’t exist, some people are dealing with more than others but everyone’s pain is valid. Thus, when I pass you, you may be in pain, you may be tired, you may have to deal with something soul-crushing for quite some time now, know that, I truly wish you a kinder sea.

Let’s all make someone’s sea a bit calmer!

Kindness to you all,

Laura
